The field Trip to Santa Cruz : Monarch Madness

Today was not an ordinary school day, it was a field trip day!! We were going to see the Monarch Butterflies!!! I was very excited that my mom was coming to the field trip with me.
It took 1.5 hours to get to the Santa Cruz beach by bus. The ride was boring because the bus rules said: "no playing".
After we got there we came to know it was really fun!! There was a nice beach with lots of sand to play in.

My friends Ivy and David were in my group that was led by Vinita, my mom. First, we attended an interesting presentation on the Monarch Butterflies, that was full of a lot of 'M' words. The metamorphosis of the Monarch butterflies starts with their migration from south to north for mating after which they lay eggs on a milkweed leaf. The egg hatches into the caterpillar that feeds on its eggshell and the milkweed leaf, after which it outgrows its skin and molts about 4 times before hanging into a letter 'J' shape and turns into Chrysalis out of which emerges a beautiful Monarch butterfly. The black dots on the lower wings represent the Male Monarchs.

After the presentation, we went to see the Monarchs in the forest. We spotted many clusters of Monarchs. Then the guide left us on our own.
We ate lunch and then went to the beach. Beach was a lot of fun, we ran with the waves, climbed on the rocks, made water dams on the sand until it was time to head back.
On the way back we were very tired, but it was fun trip altogether.
The Dance night in the evening on the Fun Friday after the field trip added more fun making it an extra special day.
